Why the water is so clear
The Werbellinsee is a channel lake from the last ice age: narrow, deep, with steep wooded shores and few inflows. Little nutrient input means clear water.
That is why the lake is popular with divers too, with dive centres on the shore. Swimmers notice it in the view of the bottom at the beach and in the temperature: the deep lake warms up more slowly than shallow lakes but stays pleasant well into September.
