The Werbellinsee
About ten kilometres long, up to 55 metres deep, surrounded by forest: the Werbellinsee is one of the clearest lakes in Brandenburg. The Fontane Hotel stands right on its shore in Altenhof.
A lake like a fjord
The Werbellinsee runs through the Schorfheide as a narrow, deep ribbon. Steep wooded shores, clear water and few villages on the banks make it one of the quietest lakes in the region. Altenhof lies on the eastern shore, with a promenade and a view across the full width of the lake.
Swimming, boats, circular trail
The swimming season runs from May to September, and the lawn of the house has its own beach access. Rowing and pedal boats are available at the boat hire next to the hotel, the circular trail around the lake is about 25 kilometres and can be done on foot or by bike in a day.
Four seasons
In summer the day belongs to the water, in autumn to the light on the forest, in winter to the sauna and the still shore. The house is open all year except for a winter break over the turn of the year, in 2026/27 from 21 December to 18 January. There are packages for every season.

Questions about The Werbellinsee
Does the hotel have its own beach?
Yes. The private lawn of around 6,400 square metres reaches down to the Werbellinsee and has its own beach access. It is included for hotel guests, daily from 8 am to 8 pm.
Can day guests use the lawn and the sauna?
Yes. The lawn costs €5 for day guests, €3 for children aged 3 to 11. The Finnish sauna is open to day guests by prior booking for €15 per two hours.
