Hotel in the Schorfheide
The Schorfheide
The Schorfheide-Chorin Biosphere Reserve is one of the largest protected areas in Germany: beech forests, moors, more than 200 lakes. The Fontane Hotel sits right in the middle of it, on the shore of the Werbellinsee.
Biosphere reserve
Schorfheide-Chorin has been protected by UNESCO as a biosphere reserve since 1990. Old beech forests, pine heaths, moors and lakes form a landscape that is home to white-tailed eagles, cranes and beavers. The Werbellinsee is its largest lake.
Forest at the door
Paths lead straight from the hotel into the forest: to the Askanierturm tower, to Joachimsthal, to Hubertusstock hunting lodge. Rental bikes are available at the boat hire next door, maps at reception.
Culture nearby
Chorin Abbey with its summer concerts, the Niederfinow boat lift and the forest town of Eberswalde are half an hour’s drive away. Berlin is an hour away.
