Sixty minutes that make the difference
From central Berlin it is about 60 minutes to Altenhof via the A11, from the northern edge of the city around 45. Far enough to leave the city behind, close enough for a weekend without travel stress.
The route is simple: A11 towards Stettin to the Joachimsthal exit, then the B198 and the L220 to Altenhof. The last kilometres lead through the forest of the Schorfheide; at the end the hotel stands right on the promenade. Ten parking spaces are right at the hotel.
From BER airport the drive takes about 75 minutes, via the A113 and the Berlin ring road onto the A11. Guests from Hamburg need around two and a half hours, from Stettin about 90 minutes.
By train: to Eberswalde, then 20 minutes
The RE3 runs from Berlin Hauptbahnhof to Eberswalde in 30 to 40 minutes. From there it is another 20 minutes by taxi or bus to Altenhof.
If you travel without a car, let reception know in advance. The house helps with the transfer from Eberswalde, and rental bikes are available at the boat hire next door. At the lake itself nobody needs a car: restaurant, lawn, beach and sauna are at the house, the boat hire right beside it.
Why not the edge of the city?
The lakes around Berlin are beautiful and quickly reached. At the weekend you share them with many. The Werbellinsee lies in a biosphere reserve, has few villages on its shores and water that counts among the clearest in Brandenburg.
