Sauna by the lake: why winter is the best time on the Werbellinsee

In summer the Werbellinsee belongs to everyone. In winter it belongs to the guests of the house: empty paths, a still lake, mist over the water and a sauna waiting after the walk.

The lake in winter

Between November and March the Werbellinsee lies still. On clear days the forest stands black against a pale sky; on others mist hangs over the water until noon.

The circular trail is free, the boats are ashore, the lawn lies white or brown. Whoever comes now comes for the quiet. In hard winters the lake freezes at the shore, as in February 2026.

The sauna

The Finnish sauna of the house is open to hotel guests by prior booking, to day guests for €15 per two hours.

The routine most guests choose: a walk along the shore to the Askanierturm, back through the forest, sauna, mulled wine on the winter terrace, dinner at Theodors. The next morning the same in a different order.

The Winter Magic package

Two nights with breakfast, sauna included, mulled wine on the winter terrace, dinner at Theodors. Bookable after the winter break until March.
